Porlezza with its picturesque houses, red tiled roofs and its old church tower, it at the heart of the beautiful Valsolda Valley – the lakes area in the north of Italy – by the pristine Italian Alps. The town of Porlezza though is in Italy, borders with Switzerland, and thus is a fusion between the sights of Alpine Switzerland and the lively atmosphere, charm and colorfulness of Italy. The town is tranquil and picturesque, yet bustling with life. Around the old city center are many cafes and restaurants, and along its streets are little appetizing delicatessens, bakeries and charming little shops. A lively market takes place in the streets every Saturday and in the summer there is a weekly fair of antiques and handcrafts.
The town is surrounded by a beautiful boardwalk, with a playground for children in its center. Along the promenade, one can bathe in the clear waters, fish, rest, or drink a coffee in one of the cafes along the waterfront. The lake’s shining waters are very inviting and many enjoy renting a boat and sailing to take pleasure in the unique view of the tall Alpine mountains surrounding from all directions, the picturesque medieval towns scattered around with their chapel bell towers.
